| The fund has been established to provide awards, scholarships and grants for deserving college bound students, special needs students needing assistive equipment, as well as anti-violence education to teach young people about the damage that one punch can do. |
| Because of your support and love, the Okie33 fund was able to help others in the following ways: |
In 2008

| In 2007 |
| • Two scholarships were awarded to deserving students at North Quincy High School, John's alma mater. One was awarded to a graduating senior to help further their college education, and one was given to a special needs student. |
| • Money was donated on behalf of the O'Connell family for the batting cages at Adams Field in Quincy, MA. The money was raised by John's friends and family through numerous fundraising efforts, and now the batting cages are dedicated to John and his love for baseball. |
| In 2006 |
| • Three scholarships were awarded to deserving seniors at North Quincy High School, John's alma mater. Two boys and one girl were given awards to help further their college education. |
| • In addition, a grant was made to a special needs student whose life had been touched by John. |
| • Finally, a donation was made to the North Quincy High School Special Needs Learning Center. |
